Shows how the cars in a freight train are scheduled, inspected and assembled. Follows the fast freight number 40 on its journey from Kansas City to Chicago. Examines the specific duties of train personnel and the operation of safety devices. The conductor, yard master, engineer, fireman, brakemen positions are highlighted. The cars are separated into groups that are going on to the same train. They pass over an inspection pit and are marked for repairs if necessary. Switching of the tracks during train assembly and departure from the stockyard is managed from a large tower. Cars are sent down the tracks to join the train with which they will travel. Ice is put into refrigerator cars. In an hour and a half, a mile of freight cars is loaded, inspected and coupled. During the trip, the front brakeman watches the train to make sure everything runs smoothly. The conductor sits in his office, reads orders and completes paperwork. The rear brakeman alerts the engineer when the last car is clear of turn and bridges, so the train can pick up speed. Explains why freight trains are important to many people. We digitized and uploaded this film from the A/V Geeks Archive. Email us at footage@avgeeks.com if you have questions about the footage and are interested in using it in your project.

The M3 Half-track, known officially as the Carrier, Personnel Half-track M3, was an American armored personnel carrier widely used by the Allies during World War II and in the Cold War. Derived from the M2 Half Track Car, the slightly longer M3 was extensively produced, with about 15,000 units and more than 50,000 derivative variants manufactured (most of which were interim designs). The design was based on the Citroen-Kégresse half-track. The developers attempted to use as many commercial parts as possible. There were also several dozen variants for different purposes. The M3 and its variants were supplied to the U.S. Army and Marines, as well as British Commonwealth and Soviet Red Army forces, serving on all major fronts throughout the war. Although at first unpopular, it was used by most of the Allies at some point in the war. Racks under the seats were used for ammunition and rations; additional racks behind the seat backs held the squad's rifles and other stowage. A small rack for mines was added on the outside of the hull just above the tracks. In combat, most units found it necessary to stow additional food, rucksacks and other crew stowage on the outside of the vehicle. Luggage racks were often added in the field, and very late vehicles had rear-mounted racks for this crew stowage.[2] Early vehicles had a pintle mount, just behind the front seats, that mounted a .50-caliber (12.7 mm) M2 Browning machine gun. The later M3A1 adopted a raised, armored 'pulpit mount' for the .50-caliber, and .30-caliber (7.62 mm) machine guns could be used from mounts along the sides of the passenger compartment. Many M3s were later modified to the M3A1 standard. The body was armored all around, with an adjustable armored shutter for the engine's radiator and a bulletproof windscreen. Although originally intended for armored infantry regiments, it was quickly put into action with the Provisional Tank Group when the Japanese Army began their invasion of the Philippines. Initially, there were multiple complaints due to several mechanical difficulties. These were rectified by the Ordnance Department after receiving field reports from the Philippines. The M3's first use for its intended role was during Operation Torch. Each armored division had 433 M2s or M3s, 200 in the armored regiments and 233 in the armored infantry regiment.[6] The halftracks were initially extremely unpopular and dubbed "Purple Heart Boxes" (a grim reference to the US Army's decoration for combat wounds) by American troops. The chief complaints centered on the complete lack of overhead protection from airbursting artillery shells and that the armor was inadequate against machine gun fire. Omar Bradley quoted in his report about half-tracks that it was "a competent and dependable contrivance. Its bad name resulted from the inexperience of our troops who attempted to use it for too many things".[6] In 1943, the M3 served in Sicily and Italy and received positive reports of it in action. It went into service in 1944 in Operation Overlord and served in Europe for the remainder of the war.

Shown here are participants in the 2011-2012 Facilities Maintenance Technician Certification Training Program (FMTC) with Green Construction Endorsement through the Banner Center for Construction. The program was created at the request of local housing authorities to train and assess facilities maintenance personnel. The goal is to create higher performance levels, reduce employment and insurance costs, and to improve workplace safety. FMTC combines three (3) national industry certifications with an option to earn an additional two (2) through online assessment. Each national certificate is a completion point within the overall credential. Successful completers received an OSHA 10-Hour Safety Certification, became certified technicians under the National Apartment Association's "Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT)", and were recognized as green construction technicians through the National Center for Construction Education and Research's "Your Role in the Green Environment". Graduates also became eligible to sit for the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Universal 608 Certification exam, and to sit for the Green Advantage Environmental Certification exam through Green Advantage, Inc.

Here's some footage I shot over several Sundays in February 2017 of a Herzog ballast train and a few BNSF trains on the Madill Sub. The Herzog work train was pulled by two ex-Santa Fe GP9us that are still sporting Santa Fe Freightbonnet paint, Topeka cabs, and Roots-blown 567 prime movers. The interesting pair of Geeps normally lives in the confines of TRE's Irving maintenance facility and yard (the TRE is operated and maintained by Herzog personnel). Since the locomotives were on the northbound end of the southbound ballast train, the conductor had to sit on top of the lead ballast hopper to keep an eye on the track ahead. HTSX 972 was built in 5/1956 as ATSF 709 and was rebuilt as ATSF 2262 in 11/1978. 952 was originally built as ATSF 741 in 4/1957 and was rebuilt as 2277 in 7/1979. Both locomotives were rebuilt at Santa Fe's diesel shop in Cleburne, TX. 2/19/17 0:00 Herzog track inspector - HZGX 847 (hi-rail pickup) 0:14 Southbound BNSF rock train - BNSF 4196 (Dash 9-44CW), BNSF 3988 (ET44C4), DPU: BNSF 5345 (Dash 9-44CW) 4:44 Southbound Herzog ballast train - HTSX 972 (GP9u), HTSX 952 (GP9u) 8:10 Ballast train at a second location (south Gribble) 2/12/17 9:34 Light Geeps heading west at WC Junction on the TRE line 10:34 Southbound manifest freight - BNSF 4463 (Dash 9-44CW), BNSF 4211 (ES44C4), BNSF 656 (Dash 9-44CW) 11:17 BNSF yard power - BNSF 1514 (GP28-2), BNSF 2688 (GP39-2) Thanks for watching! Carburizing and hardening gear teeth of gears, pinion shafts, bearing surfaces and other components subject to wear is a common heat treatment practice. The parts shown are ring gears for a mining application. Case depth of the heat treatment was 0.150" deep and surface hardness HRC 58 - 62. Keeping gears round and flat is an integral requirement of the heat treatment to minimize post heat treat grinding. Metlab, with pit furnaces up to 15' in diameter by 12' deep has heat treated gears that weigh up to 50,000 pounds with case depth requirements in excess of 0.250" deep.

Album:Solo Para Ti (1992) Ottmar Liebert (born 1959)[1] is a German-born composer and guitarist, born to a Chinese-German father and a Hungarian mother. As a child, he spent most of his time traveling Europe and Asia with his family. Ottmar leads an ensemble called Luna Negra ("Black Moon"), which has gained popularity performing as a touring band and recording music albums in a "Nouveau Flamenco" style. Ottmar has been nominated five-times for a Grammy award. Ottmar first pursued his rock and roll aspirations in his native Germany and then in Boston where he played in the alternative band RED with his brother Stefan. Ottmar then moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. By 1989, he had founded the first "Luna Negra" band. The ground-breaking album Nouveau Flamenco began life as a self-produced local release called Marita: Shadows and Storms, copies of which local artist Frank Howell distributed in his art galleries. When the record found its way to radio stations and began generating a response among listeners, Higher Octave Music picked it up and released a re-mastered version. Since 1990, Ottmar Liebert has released a total of 25 albums including live releases, Christmas CDs, 15 CDs of original music, a DVD and remixes. He has received 38 Gold and Platinum certifications in the USA as well as certifications in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. His debut album sold double-platinum and has become one of the best-selling guitar albums of all time. In May 2006 Ottmar was ordained as a Zen Monk by Dennis Genpo Merzel, at the Kanzeon Zen Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ottmar Liebert has recorded with Luna Negra since 1990. Personnel has changed regularly since then, with the only constant being bassist Jon Gagan.
